Hossein Rikhtehgar Berenji is an Assistant Professor of Operations Management in the College of Business, Pacific University. He earned his Ph.D. in Operations & Business Analytics and his Master of Science in Decision Sciences from the Lundquist College of Business at the University of Oregon.
Hossein’s research interests fall broadly in supply chain management and data analytics with applications in sustainability, healthcare, and humanitarian operations and crisis Management. He has received the “Best Problem-Driven Analytical Research Paper” award twice from the Decision Sciences Institute for his research on “contracting for social & environmental responsibility” and “vaccine development at the pandemic speed”. Hossein has also received the “Junior Faculty Award” from the Western Decision Sciences Institute. His dissertation has been selected as a finalist for the Ellwood Buffa Doctoral Dissertation Award Competition by the Decision Sciences Institute. He has also been selected as a Paul R. Lawrence Fellow by the Case Research Foundation. In recognition of his research's profound societal impact extending beyond academia, he was honored with the prestigious Kate Garrison "Overcoming the Odds" Award from Pacific University.
Hossein has taught Operations Management, Business Analytics, Supply Chain Management, and Information Systems. During his time at the University of Oregon, he received two teaching awards at the college-level (Robin & Roger Best Teaching Award) and one at the university-level (Kimble Teaching Award). He was also awarded the Outstanding Educator of the Year from the College of Business at Pacific University for his excellence in teaching.
Hossein has been involved in professional societies and contributed to the organization of several conferences. He has also served the Production & Operations Management Society (POMS) as Vice President of Colleges and as a member of the POMS conference program committee.
Prior to his Ph.D. program, Hossein worked as a senior industrial consultant in Pars Consultants Group and taught executive programs in private institutions and colleges. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Sharif University and a B.S in Industrial Engineering.
